About:

Danielle Gallant (b. 1992) is a self-taught abstract artist based in Ottawa, Ontario. Rooted in a lifelong pull toward creativity, her practice is shaped by a deep appreciation for art, design, and the quiet spaces where reflection and creativity emerge.

Danielle's artistic journey began as a personal return to painting and self-expression, through which she found an unfiltered and meaningful way to work through emotion and experiences. Her large-scale work is characterized by the use of acrylics, oil, pastel, watercolour, and layered mark-making on canvas, allowing her to create soft, atmospheric compositions that feel expressive and layered.

Danielle describes her creative process as an exploration of emotion beyond language; a way of expressing what words cannot. Guided by intuition and a deep love of colour, her work invites viewers not only to observe, but to feel.

Artist Statement:

My work explores memory and emotion through abstraction, with a focus on moments that exist quietly beneath the surface. Each piece emerges from the interplay of memory, lived experience, and present feeling, revealing how personal history continues to shape an evolving sense of self.

I work primarily on cotton canvas using oil, acrylic, and oil pastel, while my experimental practice includes coffee staining, spray paint, and subtractive processes which introduce an element of unpredictability and dynamic tension.

My process is intuitive and fluid, allowing the materials to move freely and respond to one another. Paint is built slowly, through layers and shifts, creating a sense of movement and stillness that mirrors the rhythm of everyday life.

Themes of connection, pause, and transformation run throughout my practice. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the work remains open-ended, inviting viewers to bring their own memories and emotions into the experience and allowing each piece to evolve through interpretation.

At its core, my work honors the beauty found in fleeting moments, quiet change, and the spaces in between where reflection, vulnerability, and creativity emerge.
